By Stephen Adeleye.

No fewer than 6000 indigent citizens of Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Local Government Areas, have been empowered by a member of House of Representatives, Hon. Idris Salman, representing the Federal constituency.

Speaking at the distribution center on Monday in Aiyegunle-Gbede, Ijumu, Salman said 6000 indigent citizens across the constituency would be empowered with items worth hundred millions of naira.

The lawmaker said the gesture was part of his responsibility and commitment to providing quality representation for his constituents, as well as facilitating diverse opportunities for his people.

“I decided to reach out to my people through different programs, hence the need for the distribution of these essential materials to assist the less privileged in alleviating their sufferings.

“The beneficiaries are drawn from across the 30 wards in the federal constituency.

“We have variety of essential materials and tools that we have provided for distribution to support their livelihood.

“The items include: 6000 bags of 10kg of rice, 30 motorcycles, 30 grinding machines, 10 deep freezers, and several barber’s clippers with chairs and accessories.

“Other are 15 water pump machines, 100 sprayers and chemicals, 20 hairdresser kits, 20 industrial sewing machine and 20 generators, among others,” Salman said.

The lawmaker noted that the essential materials were meticulously selected to support the people across some critical sectors.

This, he said, was to assist them to access the working tools that would enhance their productivity leading to economic gain to make them become self-reliant and improve their well-being.

Salman, therefore advised the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the materials to improve their livelihoods and enhance their standard of living.

He assured those who were yet to be captured to keep hope alive, saying, “many programs and empowerment are in pipeline in 2025 that will also be beneficial to them”.

He, however, warned that any attempt to sell the materials cheaply would be a disservice to his efforts in repositioning their well being and livelihoods.

He added: “I assure you of my commitment to continue to prioritising development of the entire constituency.

“Just yesterday, I commissioned a six blocks of classrooms at Government Science Secondary School, Okedayo in Kabba district, and a Solar powered boreholes in Edumo and Odo-Ape communities in Bunuland.

“This is to enable my people to access portable water and quality education respectively”.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to NAN, commended the lawmaker for living up to expectations in alleviating their suffering.

A beneficiary, Mr Solomon Owope, who got a motorcycle appreciated the lawnmower for his kind gesture towards the less privileged and promised to make judicious use of it.

“We are grateful to our representative for providing such empowerment programs just barely 17 months in office. We will continue to give him all the needed support for him to do more,” Owope said.
