APM Candidate Rejects Okura Constituency By-election Results, Heads to Court

Candidiate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) in the Saturday Okura House of Assembly by-election, Joseph Egene Okiti, has rejected the outcome of the poll.

Addressing reporters in his hometown on Sunday, Okiti accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of compromising its integrity and undermining democracy.

Okiti described the election as a clear rape of democracy, alleging that the exercise was marred by irregularities and insisted that INEC failed to uphold credibility.

He vowed to seek legal redress, describing the election as “a coordinated robbery of the mandate of the good people of Okura Constituency.”

“We reject the results in their entirety, and we are heading to court to reclaim our mandate,” he said.

INEC declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Hassan Shado, winner of the by-election.

Announcing the results at the Egume Collation Centre, the Returning Officer, Prof Emmanuel Onome, said the APC candidate secured 55,073 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate scored 1,038 votes and the APM candidate polled 445 votes.
